Facebook just released their most important new feature. It’s called Town Hall and it makes it easier than ever to get your voice heard on the issues affecting your family; everything from schooling, consumer product safety, and zoning issues, to congressional budgeting, confirmations and beyond. The list is endless!
1 - Go to facebook.com/townhall or find the “town hall” tab on your Facebook app.
2 - Enter your address to see which representatives are in your district, from city council all the way up. Follow all of them. Seriously. It matters.
3 - Keep an eye on your newsfeed. The secret sauce is in the contact button - use it!
Any time one of the politicians you follow has a post that makes it into your newsfeed, Facebook will now add a contact button to it. Pushing it will help get your voice heard.
On desktop, pushing the contact button will give you the option send a message through email, Facebook Messenger or go to the representative’s page so you can post a comment.
On mobile, pushing the button also adds a “call” option to the list. You are now just one Facebook-button-push away from calling the politicians whose decisions affect your life!
At this point, you’d be forgiven for asking, “Could sending a message really change anything?” According to Vanity Fair Magazine, the answer is yes!
Last month, Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski shocked her colleagues when, after her office was flooded with calls from concerned constituents, she announced that she would oppose the nomination of Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos. Her reason according to the magazine? “I have heard from thousands, truly thousands, of Alaskans who shared their concerns,” she said on the Senate floor.
Have an opinion? Now you have an easy way to make sure it gets heard.
